Thanks, Just had a look at the spamd documentation but there doesnt seem to be an example for setting up the spamc client. Is it easy to implement for system wide use?. At present I have 5 users on the network each with a procmailrc file calling SA.

Ah, so you load perl into memory for -each- email that you process.

Switch to using spamd and spamc and see if the timeouts go away. Spamd loads perl once to set up SA, and spamc just gives it an e-mail and asks for a reply.
