I have a 1.2Ghz system w/256mb ram running Kmail 1.4.3 on Mandrake 9.0. I have the filter to call spamc as the last filter, which I assume would mean that after all other mail has been deposited in the correct folder whatever is left is processed by spamd. Spamd is running constantly. When spamc is called it spawns one spamd child process. What my question is according to my syslog most spam/ham is processed and identified anywhere from 7-20 seconds. Why then does it take upwards of 10+ minutes most times for the child process to finish? I have bayes turned on in my local.cf as well as auto learn. Could this be contributing to the long run time? I also have 58 active rule files including the three _uri.cf files running. Also have RBL checks, razor, pyzor and dcc active. According to SA Stats as shown below my total time to analyze spam/ham is a little over 50 minutes, but as I sat here waiting for spamd to finish running in the latest mail download so I could finish this message it seemed to take about 15 minutes for it to complete its run.
Spam analysis time : 2567 s ( 107 s/hr) Ham analysis time : 444 s ( 18 s/hr) Total analysis time : 3010 s ( 125 s/hr) Any advice or hints on how to speed things up would be appreciated since whenever spamd is processing mail, Kmail is 'frozen' in otherwords I can't read/write messages.
