Glad I could be of service!

My guess is that Google are tweaking their app to improve the sync
using CalDAV in iCal, which is also works pretty sporadically,
although at least it hasn't removed anything from my iCal to date.

I suspect this is a better (built in and free v 3rd party at a cost)
long term solution but will see how things develop...
