For all my friends and family members, I only refer to them by first
name to help distinguish them against work related contacts. I have
SpanningSync set to Gmail compatibility for Contacts and I noticed
that my contacts that don't have a last name set in Gmail are being
synced to my Apple Address Book with the first name entered in the
last name field. Even after a sync and I try to reset the contacts in
Address Book to put the (now) last name back into the first name field
then re-sync, but it will redo it again and reverse the fields.

So my question is: is this behavior part of the Gmail compatibility?

If that's the case, I can live with it, because Gmail compatibility is
more important to me as I don't use Apple Mail or Address Book aside
from the extent of using SpanningSync to keep my phone in sync with
Google.
