Hi Eden,

If you're using "Address Book Compatibility Mode" this won't be a
problem for contacts that were created or edited in Apple's Address
Book.  However, if you use "Gmail Compatibility Mode" this behavior is
expected, but is new. In the past, we've always mapped single names to
the first name field, but in order to be more compatible with Google's
own sync apps, we've changed it so single names wind up in the last
name field. I agree that this often isn't the desired result, but
we're trying to be as compatible as possible with other applications
and devices (like Outlook, the G1 phone, BlackBerry, etc) that Google
syncs to, so we've made the decision to follow their design.
