Hi, The name search in Google doesn't work very well using Address Book compatibility mode because of the formatting characters that are needed because Address Book uses separate fields for first, middle, and last names, while Google uses a single field for the entire name. There's some similar issues with how Google handles addresses.
By using "GMail compatibility mode" there's no guarantee that the contacts on Google are going to appear correctly in Address Book, and no protection against duplicates (since Vincent / Van / Gogh is considered a different contact than Vincent / Van Gogh). Here are the main differences between using the two different modes: Address Book compatibility mode: - Maintains first/middle/last name and street address fields for contacts already in Address Book - Better protects against contact duplication Gmail compatibility mode: - Keeps some phones and browsers from showing "box characters" - Maintains autocompletion in Gmail and the G1 - Maintains search functionality in Gmail Thanks, Byron On May 28, 3:33 pm, bcomnes <[email protected]> wrote: > So as far as I can tell, two issues stemming from the option to > preserve Apple Address book details occur in the contacts pane inside > gmail (and now google voice), and when using the desktop google talk > client. > > The two issues: > > In the gmail contact pane: > Searching for contacts using names does not work very well.
