Hi, Spanning Sync stores your Google account name and password on the login keychain. To store it anywhere else would be an improper usage of the credentials. If your login keychain is set to lock after 5 minutes then anything that tries to access it will end up prompting you for your login keychain password through the Mac OS X security system.
The reason you didn't see this in Spanning Sync 2 is because in that architecture the sync app was long running, and that became susceptible to memory issues (retained SQL database references by Apple Sync Services, mostly). With Spanning Sync 3 the sync app quits when done syncing and so on the next sync the new process has no reference to the Google credentials and has to read them off of the keychain. The best practice here is probably to set your keychain lock time to >= the Spanning Sync sync interval. Of course, not setting the keychain to lock after a period of time will work, too. If you have super sensitive data to protect, you might consider placing those on a new keychain (or any existing keychain that's not the login keychain) with increased security.
