VSIZE is not a very useful metric except in how it changes over time
(which can help identify memory leaks). The reason Spanning Sync has a
larger VSIZE than Photoshop is because it links to more system
libraries, but these are *shared* libraries so there's no impact. An
RSIZE of 17MB sounds very reasonable.
