Unfortunately, for anyone using MobileMe, the iCal calendar beta is CalDav and presumably will remain so when it comes out of beta. So, that may well be the reason she is running into issues. I'm going to drop from the beta so I can use Spanning Sync - and hope it is resolved by the time they bring MobileMe's iCal out of beta. Unfortunately, I've always found Apple to be fairly unresponsive to resolving issues like this - too busy adding eye candy, I guess.
