Also, I forgot to mention that when you're trying to change an event in iCal, it's entirely possible that Apple Sync Services is initiating a trickle sync before you're done editing the event, which is going to cause a duplicate. You can turn off trickle syncing by pasting this line into Terminal (which is in the Utilities folder):
