Hi John, The initial sync with Spanning Sync can take some time to complete, especially if you're syncing a large amount of data. Once the initial sync is complete, all subsequent syncs will be much faster (a few seconds).
Apple doesn't allow modification to an Exchange calendar, so it's going to be read-only during the sync. You should be able to sync these Exchange calendars using Spanning Sync, but only one-way to Google. All local iCal calendars can sync in both directions, but not Exchange calendars.
