Larry, I am now able to access the leopard-download page and download
the installer, but I *still* get the errors -- unexpected quit on the
uninstaller, and "The “Spanning Sync” preferences pane could not be
installed because an error occurred." when I try to install.

I'm feeling pretty frustrated by now. Something about the original
installation of 3.2 obviously threw a wrench in the works. Where is
the wrench?
