Since I discovered Spanning Sync, I have been thrilled at its ability to ease all of my sync woes. Before the move to iCloud, I used MobileMe to sync contacts on my 2 mac and 2 iOS devices. Then, Spanning Sync was employed to sync MobileMe to Google Contacts and all has worked wonderfully.
I have read the blog post (http://blog.spanningsync.com/2011/10/ icloud.html) about not being able to sync contacts from iCloud with Google. However, I am requesting a particular feature that might be useful to other people in my exact scenario. I need to use Google contacts primarily for the use of Google Voice. I am more concerned that my Google Contacts be identical to the iCloud contacts rather than sync'ed between the the two services. Ideally, it would be useful if Spanning Sync was able to simply one-way sync (or even replace) all of my contacts originating in iCloud to Google on a schedule (once a day, for instance). The sync does not need to be triggered by changes made to contacts in iCloud. This would seemingly eliminate the problem of Apple's sync system not informing Spanning Sync about changes to contacts. Spanning Sync would simply read the iCloud contacts on a schedule (every 15 minutes, hour, or daily) and send them to Google. I never update the Google contacts directly or need the changes in Google to be reflected in iCloud; my Google contacts are simply a clone of my iCloud contacts. Thus, my syncing would resemble the following: iCloud for all of my Macs and iOS devices. (Any changes to contacts are made in iCloud) Spanning Sync one-way replaces/syncs contacts originating from the Mac iCloud Address book to Google. Is it possible to add this support to Spanning Sync? I know it is technically possible because I have tested this scenario with Syncman (http://wateree.net/syncman/) and it works. However, its accuracy and support for certain Google contact fields is lacking (such as prefixes, suffixes, and middle names. It simply omits them from Google altogether) and the developer appears to have stopped development. If this could be supported, I would happily buy a lifetime license for Spanning Sync and all of my iCloud sync problems would disappear.
