Running OS X 10.6.8, the latest version of SS (I believe).

Sometimes (50%?) of the time when I quit System Preferences (I usually
keep it running in the background), it quits, but the process
"Spanning Sync Notifier" shoots up to near 100% CPU usage. It stays
like this for anywhere from 5-30? minutes. So far, if I wait "long
enough," it quits on its own. If I try to restart System Preferences -
that works, but if I then try to select Spanning Sync, then SP hangs
until the "hung" process quits.

What is happening here? This has been going on for quite some time.
How can I stop this from happening?
