Yes, a firmware upgrade is still advisable. With older firmware, hardware faults on these machines can only be cleared by a field engineer after entering a password. And for some (most?) hardware faults the machine won't boot anymore until the fault has been cleared. With newer firmware this restriction is removed and anyone with access to the XSCF can clear a fault. As we have seen in the past, some hardware faults can be triggered by software bugs in the running OS. So I highly recommend updating the firmware to at least XCP version 1116 before playing with the machine. > Il sab 25 set 2021, 02:20 Theo de Raadt <dera...@openbsd.org> ha scritto: > > > The faster sparc64 machines are really fun. > > > > That means M10, T4+, M3000. > > > > Just do it. > > > > > > Paolo Aglialoro <paol...@gmail.com> wrote: > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > I have a colleague who would like to get rid of his M3000 box and I'd > > > rather take it to try obsd on it. > > > > > > Questions are: > > > -what are your experiences/best practices on this box?
