Hello all,

we still have several Sparc64 machines (Sun Fire v210 / 240 / 245) in use.

FreeBSD 12.4 is end of life from 31 Dec 2023. It is no longer supported in
FreeBSD 13.0 and later.
Due to lack of maintainer support for the ports over the last years it was
already difficult or impossible to build up-to-date software from the ports
under Sparc64 (buggy GMP / GCC 9).

In our evaluation phase for an alternative Platform:

- Solaris 10 with https://unixpackages.com/
- Openindiana (Beta for Sparc)
- Debian 7 (for Sparc) ... too old

We think that OpenBSD with its current release and up to date software packages
is the best option for us, even if we will miss ZFS sorely :/

What steps need to be followed for OpenBSD to fully boot "rootfs" from a
SoftRAID?

Our manual adjustments in the shell of the bsd.rd installer have only ever
worked with creating a separate root partition "/" as 4.2BSD
and then using bioctl to create a RAID partition for "/tmp" + "/var" + "/usr" +
"/home".

Mit freundlichen Gr??en
