Alexios Zavras has been leading the GSOC process for SPDX, so I can get you in touch with him if you have any specific questions - he'll be able to answer them much better than I can! The SBOM Conformance Checker is a great project to take on. I see you have experience in Java - would you like to develop this in the SPDX Java libraries? Gary O'Neall currently maintains these and I'm sure he'd be able to help if you get stuck and maybe even be your mentor for GSOC.
