David,
Why is there a case issue with CF and Verity?
My guess is the ColdFusion DB Gateway (CFUSION/BIN/cfindex.dll). By placing
" around your searchterms will solve the case issue with searching.

Spectra and Verity
I took a few minutes to look at the spectra tags, they all use the standard
CF search tags.

Andy,
Your assumptions are correct in the Verity demo that you created.

When you build a collection, it takes a copy of the "style" files and places
them in the specified collection location.
These style files define what data to index, how to index it, which filters
to use for different mime-types, etc...

After the collection is created, you can modify the style.ufl in the newly
created collection folder in order to add your own fields. (i.e. custom meta
tags)
You want to avoid making changes to the default files.

Then fill the collection based on the modified style files using the cfindex
tag.

The Verity product provided with ColdFusion, NES, Broadvision,... are all
based on the Verity Search97 Information Server.

Multi-Lingual Searches
When you specify a language, it sets the dictionary, thesaurus and character
set. You must have the International Search Pack installed in order to use
this feature.
If you do not have it installed, Verity will ignore special characters.
At this point, I don't know of any search software that will associate words
across languages. (i.e. search for green and find verde)

Which tags did you use for indexing and searching?

we're doing a search on a production site using Verity of object properties
that
are marked as indexed. Searching for "Retirement" finds 145 matches.
Searching
for "retirement" finds 0 matches. similarly, searching for "RETIREMENT"
finds 0
matches.

Any idea why Verity would be returning such a different result?

David
