I don't think the webtop is a model of a good spectra site IMHO. It looks
great for demonstration purposes but it just is not usable in a production
environment (again, IMHO.) The fact that the webtop has all kind of
caching hacks indicates to me that there is a fundamental problem with the
code behind it.

That being said, spectra is not just the webtop; quite the opposite in
fact. Behind the webtop there lies a wonderful world of ContentObjects,
handlers, etc. etc. (Sorry if I am being a bit too poetic here. :)
