Here is their official reply - it is very encouraging. I also met with them and they
are very committed in my opinion.

Hello All,

Sorry about the delay in answering, as you can well imagine, it has been
crazy around here since the news of the merger. I wanted to let everyone
know that we are still working hard on the next version of Spectra (code
named Dharma) and are excited by the prospects that our new status with
Macromedia affords. We are in the throes of the planning process (and
actively soliciting user input, if you guys want to make your enhancement
requests) and will begin development in earnest in the next few weeks. Just
so you don't have to take my word for it, I'm attaching the official
statement of Tim Yeaton, our Senior VP of Products - also be on the look out
for interviews with Jeremy and Kevin Lynch of Macromedia that will address
Spectra futures as well.

-------------------------------------------------------
Statement from Tim Yeaton:

As a result of Allaire's pending merger with Macromedia, a few questions
have been raised regarding the combined companies' long-term commitment to
the Allaire Spectra product line. Macromedia and Allaire are firmly
committed to the future success and evolution of Allaire
Spectra and the continued support for the hundreds of successful Allaire
Spectra customers and value-added channel partners working with us today.

We believe we can drive even broader adoption of the Allaire Spectra
technology given the opportunities that the Macromedia tools and customer
base present. We continue to look at ways to leverage Allaire Spectra
adoption through our next generation application server line and to
capitalize on the robust functionality of Macromedia tools by ensuring that
Allaire Spectra is complementary to the next-generation team development
technologies that Macromedia is developing. In the coming months we will
further communicate the Allaire Spectra roadmap details as it pertains to
these opportunities.

We will continue to invest not only in the Allaire Spectra technology, but
also in the key supporting activities including technical support, training,
consulting, and value-added channel partnerships, to drive ongoing success
with Allaire Spectra.

The Allaire Spectra product line had a strong Q4, with over 100 new customer
wins in the quarter, and more than 640 total customer wins overall. Allaire
Spectra 1.5 is making tremendous headway already this quarter, delivering
significant added benefits and value that customers and
prospects will find very appealing. We remain fully committed to the product
line and excited about the opportunities that the merger presents.

Best regards,
Tim Yeaton

Hope this clears up some of the confusion.

best,

Anyone care to comment on the future of Spectra? I know this is probably old
hat but - the Allaire Alive with Jeremy & Kevin does not mention Spectra by
name at all......
