Nate,
For better or worse, we've had to modify just about every piece of the
webtop we've needed to work with in order to accomplish our goals. We have a
library of tags, and widgets and all kinds of groovy stuff that we use in
place of the Spectra ones. What we don't do is actually modify the Spectra
code. We always make copies of the Spectra objects, tags and handlers,
renaming them to our internal convention. Then we reintegrate them into the
webtop. This has worked out pretty well so far. Also, it avoids having to
manage code revisions when Spectra is updated.
Macromedia (Allaire) will tell you that, in fact, you should expect to build
your own "webtop", using the shrink-wrapped one as your guide.

Subject: Customizing the User Object
Hello all,
I have come up against a problem that I believe requires me to customize the
user object type. However, if I alter the default User object, that means
that my customer will no longer be able to use the webtop to add Users. Is
this correct?
Has anyone had to do something similar?
Thanks,
Nate
