Hi Michiel.

Did you take a look at the webworld-studios-site
(http://www.wwstudios.com/index_wws.cfm/286/)
where they introduce
"Webworld Studios Custom Security Solution for Macromedia Spectra
Beta Version - An Alternative to SiteMinder".
(I think this has already been suggested by someone else from the list, but
the problem seems to be that no one
has already tried it ;-)

For our product GateBuilder, based on Spectra, we only use SiteMinder for
Authentication and using
our own (CODB-based) data/application-logic for Authorization. (-> So we
always can stop fiddling around with
Netegrity-issues when we reached the point where <cfauthenticate ...> is
working ;-)

It was also quite easy to switch to a "non-SiteMinder-Authentication"-logic
just my "overwriting" the calls to
<cfauthenticate>, isAuthenticated(), authenticatedUser() by custom
(DB-based) logic.

Are you planning to use the
"securing-object/type/method"-authorization-schema from Spectra and just
looking for a more stable foundation/plattform or do you actually don't need
this kind of security
at all (and therefore don't want to spend time with installing siteminder
issues, of course) ?

Peter Trumpp

Betreff: Please Please Please Lose SiteMinder

Hi.

Can we please get rid of this SiteMinder mess? Yesterday I spent yet
another agonising number of hours troubleshooting a CF5 installation on
Solaris with Siteminder. That software is so prone to problems it
isn't funny. I don't know what deal Allaire/MM have made with Netegrity
but I do hope that it does not mean that Siteminder will always be
a requirement for Spectra.

So can we please get a bit of sanity and revert the fatal mistake of
bundling SiteMinder with spectra? I can only speak for myself of course
but I think that everyone on this list has the same feelings.
