Given the circus tricks required to install Spectra on CFMX I very much doubt if any "new" people will bother with Spectra. Do Macromedia have plans to improve installation of the open source product?? When they remove the Ektron editor, Sybase and any other third-party components what are they replacing them with -- how much of an investment are they likely to make to get this thing to work? Open source needs more than interested users. It needs: * benevolent dictatorship * knowledgable project drivers * strict code management * some sort of infrastructure Where would Mozilla be without support from Netscape/AOL? Where would Openoffice be without support from Sun (or any number of open source products for that matter, Sun is a big supporter)? Where would Linux be without Linus? These projects only have legs because companies or individuals bought into them in a big way. If Macromedia simply dumps the code base into a ZIP -- it will be the final nail in the proverbial coffin. Is there someone on this list that feels passionate enough about making a difference? And don't make the mistake of thinking that passion won't cost you in real dollars and emotional heartache. As a closing note... If you are CF/Spectra shop looking for a CMS solution that is open source and actively supported by a growing developer and user base -- you might consider FarCry CMS (http://farcry.daemon.com.au/). Especially since the migration path and learning curve for Spectra shops is minimal. -- geoff http://www.daemon.com.au/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Get the mailserver that powers this list at http://www.coolfusion.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ To Unsubscribe visit http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=lists&body=lists/spectra_talk or send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with 'unsubscribe' in the body.
