David
are you running Archive Manager on both boxes? If so why? In a FT SS
pair the Archive Manager should only run on one of the servers, and I
believe it should be on the primary.

Regards, John

Nah - although another guy has suggested turning off the 2nd
Archive Manager process. Problem is when I do that I get a permanent
alarm saying it can't connect!

Isn't H03 *before* SP1, or have I got my release dates muddled?

        David,

Have you tried adding H03 to see if it stops?

Hope someone here can offer a bit of advice...

We have 2 brand spanking new v9.0sp1 Spectroservers set up in
hot-standby. There are currently no other landscapes connected (it's
going to be the Manager of Managers for a replacement DSS system) and
there are no models on the landscape being polled other than the VNM.
The boxes are essentially sitting there idle whilst we do other network
related stuff in preparation for an across the board upgrade of our
internal monitoring before rolling it out to customers.

What I've noticed happening is that every so often, I get an
event "Cleared Contact Lost to secondary SpectroSERVER on host port at
precedence from primary SpectroSERVER on host port." - with no actual
port numbers in! This is immediately followed by "The SpectroSERVER
cannot connect to or has lost contact with the Archive Manager" plus the
corresponding Major Alarm. Then 5 mins later the reconnection to
Archive Manager event appears.

What's confusing me even more is that these alerts are always at
set times - 52mins, 40 sec past the hour, 09mins,38sec past the hour
and 32mins 39 sec past the hour. So effectively a 20 minute gap between
each burst.

Is there some sort of process that runs every 20 mins that could
possibly affect the SpectroSERVER's interactions with each other? As a
test tomorrow I'm going to restart both boxes and both SpectroSERVERS at
a set time to see if I can work out what's doing it - but if anyone else
has seen this your insights would be appreciated. I noticed a similar
issue on our 8.1SS boxes but just assumed it was because they're getting
on a bit and running out of resources. These 2 new boxes are running
nothing but Windows 2003 with all latest patches, AV and Spectrum.

        Yours confusedly.

        Dave
