For our unix boxes I use syslog-ng which forwards all the logs to a central
logserver. Then I use a Splunk server to go through and map to certain traps.
I also use Splunk for the Windows events to trigger traps to Spectrum.

I used kiwi server syslog, and convert syslog messages to traps.

This is a clean solution for this problem

syslog -> trap -> Event -> Alarm???

If you use text files as log, you can make a script to read the file and send
trap for every log line in the file

Subject: [spectrum] What do you use to scrape logs on Windows servers?

All,

Presently we're using MOM 2005 to create Log Files Scrapes for specific text
patterns. I'm curious to know if anyone else uses a simpler tool that
integrates with SPECTRUM to scrape LOG Files on servers running Windows. We
have many servers in our environment that are running some "flavor" of Windows,
and MOM isn't the easiest nor most user-friendly product to configure.

A simpler solution that can be customized per server would be ideal. Other
than SysEdge, what do you use?

Your help is appreciated.

Sincerely,

Fred
