Check BOXI Tomcat port conflicts with OneClick's Spectrum Tomcat. It caused
memory and CPU spikes to 100% for us until we discovered this issue.

Stephen,

Well said! I've known some of the CA engineers for over 11 years. Many
of them are very good at what they know and do with the product. Bill
is one of them.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Charles

James,

Thank you for the follow up. Late yesterday I was working with CA
support Engineer Bill Wolforth and as always he resolved my issue with
top notch support. He was able to show me that Spectrum was only using
1.52 GB of RAM, but for some reason the server showed Spectrum as using
3.89 GB of RAM. Together we looked at the Resource Allocation settings
in vSPhere Client and he noticed a mis-configuration. Our server team
put a 1 GB resource limit on the virtual server, which is not our
standard setting. In short, this made Spectrum crash all the time. As a
added bonus this resolved other issues I had with InfoView Report
Manager not working, Archive Manager not working and failed
Spectrum/eHealth integration.

So, I owe CA an apology the problem was with our VM and not with their
product.

Hi Stephen/List,

We had a similar (maybe the same) memory issue on 2K8 Standard x64 with
6GB RAM on VMware (albeit with Spectrum 9.1.2). The SpectroSERVER
process was using up to 4GB (as it's a 32bit application) then crashing
after about 36 hours with the message

ERROR at VNM.cc(754): E:/win32app/SPECTRUM/SS/SpectroSERVER.exe is out
of memory. Attempting to recover.

Logged a call with CA and the workaround was to use the
SpectroSERVER_debug.exe as follows

  1. Make a backup copy of the current $SPECROOT/SS/SpectroSERVER.exe
file
to a temporary location.
  2. Copy the $SPECROOT/SS/support/SpectroSERVER_debug.exe to
$SPECROOT/SS/
folder, and change the file name to SpectroSERVER.exe
  3. Restart the SpectroSERVER as normal.
  4. See if you can reproduce the crash.

Support also advised to check the DEP setting was enabled for essential
Windows Programs and Services only.

Since running with the debug executable the SpectroSERVER has remained
stable and memory usage has remained fairly consistent. CA also provided
the following comments

"As we understood that you don't have any of this problem again after
running SpectroSERVER_debug.exe, we identified that this problem is
related to known bug, i.e. swbug022819. This bug is due to Memory
Management problem using our internal MTS manager library.
SpectroSERVER_debug.exe is a binary that has fixed this problem and is
fully supported and in fact this will be the SpectroSERVER.exe binary in
the next coming releases."

Hope this solves your issues.

We had the same issues on Red Hat, the server was constantly crashing
with heap errors, just about daily.
Version 9.01.03.13.22 (RedHat server) fixed this.

At CA world I was told these fixes didn't make it into the first release
of 9.2 and I should wait until the 9.2.1 release if they were important
to me.

Our servers are now very stable, so they must have figured it out, at
least on RedHat.

fresh install of Spectrum 9.2 on a Windows 2008 VM system and it's down
more that it's up! Spectrum's eating all of the available memory. Is
anyone else having this problem? If so we're you able to resolve it?
Spectrum, Report Manager and BOXI are all running on separate systems.
They all have 4 GB of ram, but Spectrum is eating up 3.88 GB all the
time! When I stop Spectrum the memory usage drops and it shoots back up
when I Spectrum back up.
