If all you are looking at is performance, then hands down, CORBA far exceeds CLI. CORBA is much faster than CLI, but due to the complexities of developing something for CORBA, we use CLI for all small, or moderately used jobs. If we have something that is going to communicate heavily and it's going to be used frequently or if it requires tight reliable response times, then we will take the effort to develop it in CORBA (and document it heavily).
So for us: CLI is 99.9% of what we do, with CORBA that specialized .1%.
