hello mr washyourmonkey i used the petrus method for about a year. i recently jumped ship to fridrich (about 3 months ago) and i'm already doing faster times.
in fairness this could be partly because there are certain aspects of the petrus method that i never really got the hang off; in particular colour neutrality. however, i did achieve a best time of 23.5x and an average fractionally under 30 albeit not in competition :-(, albeit that's not much quiker than you anyway here are a couple of things that you might want to consider that improved my times 1. switch to oll/pll for the last layer. and find some decent algorithms that suit you. the good thing about petrus is that, with edges flipped correctly on the last layer the burden of oll is vastly reduced. a further benefit is that, if you do want to switch methods in the future, you're half way there. 2. step 4 algorithms. spend some time with the wonderful cubesolver (http://www.speedcubing.com/CubeSolver/CubeSolver.html) and learn some optimal algs for the positions, especially for the last corner-edge pair. i used to burn a lot of moves in this stage. 3. find algorithms that suit your style. i used/misused a few algs from the petrus site for the last layer that didn't really suit my style. take advantage of the considerable amount of work that has been done on the fridrich based solution and learn some nicer algs. 4. find the 'leaks'. do some slow solves and note where your method is inefficient. then work on these areas using cubesolver/acube. 5. consider joining duncan dicks on his l2l2 quest. the petrus 2x3x3 is a good starting point for this promising method and i've generated the algorithms in acube if you're interested in taking this on. unfortunately i got a bit bogged down in algorithm learning and then fell for f2l pairs :-) cheers paul --- In [email protected], "washyourmonkey" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > is there anyone else out there there that uses the petrus method that > could give me some pointers that might help me break the 30 limit. im > curently doing low to mid 30's and just about every vid ive seen is > someone using fridrich. > > oh and are there any good timer apps for linux or any at all for that > matter? > ------------------------ Yahoo!
