Hello!

First, please forgive my poor english, after all, I am only French :-)

I have joined you recently with the hope to make working my modem on my Abit
BP6 with two Celerons 500 under linux-smp and perhaps one day under win2k.

I have read in Tony Hoyle's web page (http://www.nothing-on.tv/alcatel.html)
that the official Alcatel driver for our lovely modem has some problems with
SMP configuration. But in the official FAQ, one can read this :

-------------------------------------------------------
Q6: Modem drivers do not work on Windows 2000 dual processor PC's?

A6: This is a known problem. It seems to be caused by the different
implementations of the USB Standard ( OHCH or UHCH ). Adding a extra PCI USB
card solves the problem because those always use OHCH.
-------------------------------------------------------

Where is the truth ? (don't answer "Out There" :-))

Indeed, when I try to use my modem with my dual pro configuration, about 10
secondes after the connection, it switches off.
But if I change the configuration in the device manager from "SMP
multiprocessor computer" to "Standard PC", the modem works fine!

Is it really a hardware problem ?

I want to try your driver with linux-smp but I don't find the time to do it
already (I must install the 2.4.x kernel first and configure it correctly
before doing anything serious). Netherless, I am certain some of you have
already a hint for my questions. :-)
