I didn't have any success with that either. I can't remember what the
exact problem was because it was about a month ago now...

No, it can find it quite happily without.

Manually after I plug in the modem. I'm going to put it into
usbd.conf at some point...

I need to upgrade FreeBSD anyway -- I already have a compiled obj
tree I just haven't installed it yet. I'll do that then try the newer
driver.
