As I said, it was more a Linux question. I had nade the mistake of following the /usr/src/linux/README instructions, which are a joke. The ones in Documentation/ are not much better (and contradict README). Times like this I remember why I prefer FreeBSD ;). I would have thought that by 2.2.19 the included docs might be a bit better, even if they said at the top "these docs are crap, go and find a HOWTO". My housemate explained how to remake the system maps, module-info and initrd stuff. I can now see /proc/bus/usb but modem_run won't play ball. But it was past my bed time by then. > Regards, Michael > BTW how did u get PPP support for sync tty ports in the 2.2.19 kernel ?? I don't know if I have or not. I don't have the patience for make config, much preferring make menuconfig. I put FreeBSD 4.4-RELEASE on to download overnight. When I get back to the machine I'll give it as long as it takes to burn an ISO to start to work else I'll blow it away and put FreeBSD ninstead - which I got working before with a fraction of the hassle I've had with Linux.
