Are you talking about the usbfs_search and test_file functions in 
pusb-linux.c?

I'd probably buy a low end machine and add a powered hub.  We'll have to 
see if the school system is interested, and can get adsl.  A few years 
ago, they went to a PBX and installed a T1 to each school (67 
locations).  Bellsouth installed a fiber mux to handle all that, so I'm 
not sure that they even have any live copper into the building now.
