Alright man,

Well i had similar questions myself so ill tell u what i found out but i dont 
use netbsd.

First the number for adsl is a crock its not real. DUN of windows requires a 
number thats the only reason why theres a number supplied but the actual adsl 
connection doesnt use a number if u change the windows no. to 0 it would 
still connect you.

im not sure about netbsd but on my linux box the file dealin with pap 
passwords is 
/etc/ppp/pap-secrets

you need to add a line like this

<your_username>         *       <your_password>

you can also add this line to chap_secrets because it'll try  both and 
connect with the one that connects. 

also why is ifaddress assigning local ip addresses try hashing that line out 
im not sure if you need it or not.
