I am still not able to init my modem. Here are the
steps I have followed.
1. Installed the Redhat 7.2 on my compaq presario with
an OHCI USB chipset using install CDs 1 & 2 from
redhat.
2. Booted Machine with Modem connected. Both leds
turn green as soon as OHCI driver is loaded.

3. I extracted the mgmt.o from speedmgt.tar.gz onto my
/root/downloads/mgmt
Did NOT install or compile
4. I extracted speedtouch-1_0.tar.gz(Benoit) and
performed
./configure
make
make install
All steps passed.
5. Just to see if I can get modem to sync I did:
/usr/bin/local/modem_run -m -f
/root/downloads/mgmt/mgmt.o
Modem leds turn off momentarily and then left one
is solid green while the right one blinks green most
of the time with a red blink once in a while.
I did this just to see if I get sync and didnt want to
worry about all the PPP stuff. In the past I have done
the fully HOWTO that Benoit suggest. Also could NOT
get sync.
My modem works with another computer running under
windows. The rj11 jack and cord work as well.

Again, all I have done is simply start with a brand
new installation of Redhat 7.2 and copy and install
the drivers above. I have not patched anything,
complied any kernel, or nothing.
I have tried lots of things, but I think I am just
trying to accomplish SYNC here.
Am I missing a step?
Should the ppp modules be loaded?
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Ozzy
