When you say worsening do you mean the stability of the pppoa driver is getting worse (i.e. its crashing) or your seeing more correuption in the logs (CRC errors, bad VCI/VPI or USB timeouts)? The pppoa3 driver can't do much to mitigate the second case. As long as pppoa3 is not segfaulting things should be fine. In the end though USB device stability/reliability is essentially a kernel problem so it may be worth talking to the USB developers.
