Hi all. hopefully someone on this list can help me....apologies if this has been covered before, the list archive doesn't seem to contain this specific thing though. :(
I've just done a fresh install of Mandrake 9.0, having bought a new SpeedTouch 330 USB/ADSL modem, and downloaded the speedtouch-1.2-beta1 drivers from Sourceforge. Using the windows-supplied alcaudsl.sys microcode I seem to have managed to get modem_run to load ok and pppd also seems to load, only I don't get any IP bound to the interface (doesn't appear in ifconfig). I have tried the patch that Tim Woodall posted on this list a while back, it didn't seem to make any difference (and I'm not sure if I needed it with the latest tarball?) a tail of the syslog shows the following lines: Feb 14 18:36:35 localhost modem_run[2391]: modem_run version 1.2-beta1 started by root uid 0 Feb 14 18:36:37 localhost kernel: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout Feb 14 18:36:37 localhost kernel: usbdevfs: USBDEVFS_BULK failed dev 2 ep 0x85 len 512 ret -110 Feb 14 18:36:54 localhost modem_run[2391]: ADSL synchronization has been obtained Feb 14 18:36:54 localhost modem_run[2391]: ADSL line is up (576 kbit/s down | 288 kbit/s up) Feb 14 18:36:54 localhost kernel: CSLIP: code copyright 1989 Regents of the University of California Feb 14 18:36:54 localhost kernel: PPP generic driver version 2.4.2 Feb 14 18:36:54 localhost pppd[2397]: pppd 2.4.1 started by root, uid 0 Feb 14 18:36:54 localhost pppoa3[2398]: pppoa3 version 1.2-beta1 started by root (uid 0) Feb 14 18:36:54 localhost pppoa3[2398]: Control thread ready Feb 14 18:36:54 localhost pppd[2397]: Using interface ppp0 Feb 14 18:36:54 localhost pppd[2397]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/1 Feb 14 18:36:54 localhost kernel: HDLC line discipline: version $Revision: 3.3 $, maxframe=4096 Feb 14 18:36:54 localhost kernel: N_HDLC line discipline registered. Any pointers would be appreciated.
