... Not for me. That's why I devised my cunning plan of unplugging the modem .... Seems that killing the processes isn't enough: you need to do a reset on the modem before you can issue the microcode again. I seem to remember it used to be the case with the old analog modems that you'd have to do an 'AT&H', 'AT&F' (Hangup, Restore Factory Settings) before you could get them to 'AT&Whatever-else' you wanted them to do. Now the microcode you issue FIRST might be good enough to set the modem initially, but it seems that running it a SECOND time without resetting the modem to FACTORY shows all those old-fashioned symptoms ... Maybe someone more technically aware could explain that better - or better still - write a 'reset' string for us all to enjoy ...?
