Actually I often need to disconnet it, and with speedmgmt the only way I
found to get it back to work (when I reconnect it) is a full reboot.
Also I don't like seedmgmt much (why does it need to stay running even after
it has finished loading the firmware?)

No it's not installed. It's installed and working on my older PC (that's why
I said it's a known good firmware). But I'd like to avoid using it on the
new PC and use hotplug fw loading instead.

It doesn't seem to be a hotplug configuration issue. From the log you can
see that hotplug finds both firmware files, successfully loads the first one
and starts loading the second one but then gives error:
kerner: usb 1-1: firmware/speedt timed out on ep5out
kerner: usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 5
before completing it.

Maybe I have an USB stack issue here.
For example if I type a simple "lsusb" from the command line, I get normal
output, but I also see several (about 20)errors like the following in
/var/log/messages:
lsusb: resmgr: server response code 501
Both with code 500 and code 501. Is this normal???

This is a intel P4 machine with sis651 chipset. Has anyone got this working
on this chipset?
