this means that the firmware hasn't finished loading. If you sleep for, say, 15 seconds before launching pppd, then things should be OK. By the way, things work differently in the CVS version: the ATM device is only created when the firmware is loaded and the modem is ready to go. Then hotplug can launch on the creation of the ATM device, not the USB device, and all will be well (except that ATM doesn't generate hotplug events yet, but we are working on that). Ciao, D.
