Right, Richard, I followed through your instructions and, after a few problems (‘do not recognize xxx’, ‘no such file or directory’, etc – getting to grips with Linux is clearly not my forte!), I managed to get as far as: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cp -r /media/floppy/* . && chmod +x firmware-extractor [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo alien -i libatm* Password: All OK. Then, as before, trouble struck: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ unzip SpeedTouch330_firmware_3012.zip && ./firmware-extractor ZZZL_3.012 unzip: cannot find or open SpeedTouch330_firmware_3012.zip, SpeedTouch330_firmware_3012.zip.zip or SpeedTouch330_firmware_3012.zip.ZIP So, although I have progressed, there seems to be some block when it comes to unzipping. BTW, I have established that the system recognizes my SpeedTouch modem – cat/proc/bus/usb/devices yields (among many other things): T: Bus=03 S: manufacturer=THOMSON S: Product=Speed Touch330 Any ideas you might have to get over this hurdle would be much appreciated.
