Is gcc fully installed? I had a similar problem
extracting those two files in Hoary, and it turned out
that gcc is only part-installed which botched any
attempt to extract. Have a look in synaptic for gcc
and install any parts that don't have a green box next
to them. Then try again... hope this helps.
