It would be a good idea for another reason. In Gentoo, ppp has changed:
with the latest version (ppp-2.4.3-r10), "pppd" no longer refers to a
binary in /usr/sbin, but to a script in /lib/rcscripts/net.modules.d.

I have tried to put it to use, but did not succeed; namely, I did not
find the way to write the /etc/conf.d/net.ppp0 file cleanly, especially
how to introduce the VPI/VCI values for PPPoA.

Meanwhile, I am content with doing "pppd call speedtch" at each boot;
that is to say, I still do it in the old way, but badly. I should be
much happier if things worked by the book.

A little support would be welcome.
