Like this?
64 bytes from 68.142.197.78: icmp_seq=4 ttl=52 time=125 ms
If you got 64 bytes sent to you like this, then your connection is up :)

OK, so the connection is fine, but you don't have a nameserver (the guy
who turns "www.yahoo.com" into 68.142.197.78). If you are lucky, you
can just put
usepeerdns
in your pppd options file (this file is probably called something like:
/etc/ppp/peers/speedtch). The reason you need to be lucky for this to
work is that it only works if your ISP has configured their setup right.
If it doesn't work, you need to add some entries to /etc/resolv.conf by
hand. It should contain something like this:
nameserver 192.168.20.19
nameserver 194.151.228.2
Now, these particular numbers won't work for you. You need to ask your ISP
what numbers you should use. Ask for the IP addresses of their name servers.
Probably this info can be found on their web site; maybe they mention
them in some documentation they sent you? You can always phone them
and ask.
