Hi All,

I'm a linux newbie who's trying to get speedtouch working on GNU Musix 0.5
distro, which is based upon Knoppix (info:
http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=musix) - it has been installed
and works like a dream on my laptop. I've tried searching the FAQ and archive
but still a bit lost, so please bear with me.

Having read the notes on the site I have done the firmware-extraction and
installation, and my system now appears to be 'speedtouch aware', in as much as
that the usb-viewer shows a speedtouch modem connected. And if I try "apropos
usb" or "apropos modem" (as suggested by friend) .. I can read man pages for
commands that know all about Speedtouch, (modem_run and pppoa3 etc.) but I do
not understand them.

The problem is, I don't really know what to do after this. I can see there are
notes for other distros... Fedora, Ubunto, Suse etc.. and they all give rather
similar, yet differing accounts of "PPPD" configuration. So my problem is .. i
think ... "How do I go about configuring pppd for my distro?"

Are any of the listed distros on the Speedtouch front page close enough to my
own to be able use their howto?

for reference:
My ISP is UK, virgin.net
IP Addressing: dynamically assigned IP address
 VPI: 0
 VCI: 38
 Connection type: PPPoA
 Encapsulation: VC-MUX
 Authentication method: CHAP

Many thanks for any suggestions, pointers, or help given.

Regards

Matt
