I have always bought "Dritz" brand snaps at a fabric store,
and they come with a little metal tool and a plastic anvil
that work OK.

Avoid the plier-style tool they sell. It looks handier,
but the anvil is poorly formed, and the stud does not get
flared properly.

When you flare the stud, ideally you should get a nice mushroom shape
with little or no ripping of the metal.

Another tip: Install the studs on the flaps that snap around the bars
BEFORE you glue the top to the front rail. It is hard to install
snaps if you cannot lay the fabric down on the floor.
