I haven't gotten the 71 Spitfire yet.  There's been some logistical problems.

I still intend to put an oil gauge to the motor to check the true 
level.  Several people have suggested that the oil sending unit could very 
likely be at fault.

Also, the owner told me that he is using 5W30 oil.

And he faxed me a page from the owner's manual.

It says :
Oil Pressure Warning Light
     An indicator at the bottom centre of the dial glows green when the 
ignition is switched on and is extinguished as the engine speed 
increases.  Should the indicator continue to glow when driving away, stop 
the engine and check the sump oil level.  If this is satisfactory, have the 
lubrication system check immediately.



That could be interpreted to mean that the oil light glowing at idle is to 
be expected, but....



Well, anyway, I'm waiting to hear from the owner when he can deliver the 
car.  We'll see what happens.


Thanks for all the advise.  How anyone ever owned a LBC before e-mail is 
beyond me.
