Well spitfires are notorious for slow pressure build-up at
start-up ('specially if you're using a non-non-draining oil
filter).  But once pressure builds, it should stay up.  I
don't think that low pressure at idle is a big deal, but it
may be symptomatic of low pressure across the entire rev range.
The 5W-30 oil probably isn't helping (try 20W-50).

I think the oil gauge is very sensible since you really want
to check pressure at engine speeds other than just idle.
