You should make sure that you current fuel pump is not getting starved due to crud in the line from the tank. Also make sure that the strainer screen on your pump is clean.
If you disconnect the line to the carbs and work the little priming lever on the pump, you should be able to shoot a solid stream of gas out the line. You also might have a leak in the high part of the fuel line, on top of the tank, where there is negative pressure and air could get sucked in. I have heard too many stories of people replacing perfectly good mechanical fuel pumps with sloppy electrical pump setups that only cause more problems.
