James, I have a similar problem on my '69 MkIII. In my case it's the fuel pump. I installed a clear plastic fuel filter. At idle, the filter is full of fuel, but once it gets up to about 4500 RPM the filter gets more air in it, and it starts losing power. I haven't replaced the pump with an electric yet, but that's my next step.

Namely the car going no faster than 4000rpm. In first or second the effect is like hitting a brick wall - almost litrally - I get pushed forward. On the motorway it refuses to go past 70mph - which is coincidentally 4000rpm-ish There are no leaks from the newly fitted gaskets - everything is done up nice and tight. Im pretty sure its all tuned proper - as I retuned it after I fixed the gasket. It did go much faster before... Any ideas?
