Douglas, If you remove the steering wheel, you should see a metal clip on the steering column - part number 140549 on http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/spitfire/images/109a.gif
This clip can just be pushed around the shaft so that the bit sticking out is half-way between the two plastic bits on the indicator that it 'nudges' to switch the indicators off - if you see what I mean!
